The story is as fascinating as it is impressive: life starts in freshwater streams, lakes, or rivers, then mature salmon migrate to the ocean, and finally return to their birthplace to spawn, die, then decay to nourish the environment, effectively continuing the life cycle. From egg to alevin to fry to smolts to adults, different species vary in the length of time they spend in each place and stage, but the cycle is the same, and it is epic.
Talented local artists invite you to explore this journey through paintings, sculptures, assemblages, textile panels, and collages. Works created using felted wool, kiln cast glass, mixed media, wood, oil, dye & rust painting, polymer, hydrostone plaster, river rock, steel, watercolour, and clay tell the epic story of the salmon.
We hope this exhibition encourages an awareness of the flora and fauna of our natural environment, reminding us of our responsibility to keep the waterways clean and clear to allow this life cycle to continue.
