GO ON A JOURNEY AT THE FORT GALLERY
From October 11 to 29, the Fort Gallery will exhibit works by Don Portelance and Alex Burton. The show, Journeys—Time /Space focuses on two different travel experi-ences.
Don Portelance, long time artist and Fort Gallery member, presents paintings based on his many years of travel. “I have created images inspired by many countries using vari-ous approaches; painting on site, working from photos, or abstracting the scene—whatever best shows the essence of the place. Often abstracted elements are incorpo-rated into a piece to explore symbolic or environmental concerns, or to isolate facets of the subject.”
Alex Burton presents oil paintings focusing on a completely different kind of journey—the travel of childhood. “I am intrigued by symbols and drawings which seem to be uni-versal. These symbols have shown up since the beginning of recorded time and can always be seen in children’s art from all over the globe. These paintings are whimsical, colourful, and adventurous attempts at recreating the joy the symbols embody.”
