Karima Galván. "Untitled,"
Opening ReceptionFriday Sept 8, 7-9pm
Galván's "Forge Mind and Body" is a mixed media installation, consisting of three relational series: suppressed emotion, body dysmorphia and internal healing. These subjects are communicated through the use of: Paintings inspired by the Jungian concept of the Shadow; Skewed reflections via metallic surfaces; and Mandalas produced during meditation.
Karima Heredia Galván contributes the vibrancy of Mexico to the Victoria art community. With her scholarship-funding 2017 Diploma of Fine Arts from the Vancouver Island School of Art, she continues to explore the many facets of the human body. Using mixed media she examines the physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual components of our body. Galván’s mind-body connection considers her romantic relationships, family, culture and arduous brain tumour recovery. She recently exhibited her work in an art collection and continues to elevate the Victoria art scene with her personal flare.
