Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Kay Chapman was born into a family of artists, extending from her grandfather, her mother and her sisters. As an exuberant child, she spent many hours with her father, a carpenter, while her mother, a professional seamstress, taught her sewing and clothing design. These influences reinforced her curiosity in Architecture, Fabric Design and Art. While setting out to study Fine Arts, a tragedy occurred derailing her creative career. Concern for her parents and their future security, Kay eventually moved into a healthcare practice.
Kay never abandoned her creative dream within and continued to paint even after arduous hours of hospital nursing and raising children.
