Kimberly Kiel revels in her manipulation of oil paint and makes the fullest use of its sensuous properties. Moving between abstraction and representation, she delights in her excessive application of oil paint, finding satisfaction in her ability to sculpt a blank canvas into a tangible and inviting surface. A dramatic colourist, landscapes, figures and florals explode on her canvases from the artist’s dynamic handling of pigments and their forms. The texture of Kiel’s paintings and the shapes of her brushmarks channel her joy and enthusiasm. Her mark-making records the strength and speed of her gestures and pushes her element of painting into the third dimension. Kimberly Kiel's work reaches toward the viewer; the artist hopes her work stimulates body, mind and soul as well as translating the joie-de-vivre she infuses in her signature impastoed paintings.
