Krista Johnson is a Vancouver based artist. Her representational paintings allow her to explore the relationship between colour and light as it exists in the natural world. Krista graduated with a Bachelor of Communication Design from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2000. She worked as a designer and illustrator until she began to focus on painting on 2015.
“The ideas surrounding sense of place and the primal landscape drive my work. My painting practice is an ongoing exploration in understanding and communicating the emotions of a place. Exploring space and wildness within the city, I am continually drawn to the urban garden as a place for engaging in my own internal discourse and for examining the ideas of regrowth, renewal, and change. My representational paintings allow me to relive fleeting moments and experiences. It is this constant need to seek out an abundance of nature that I continually examine in my art.”
