Kristina van Westenbrugge, "MEGAFAUNA," 2018
Closing Reception: September 20, 6-7pm.
MEGAFAUNA is a silkscreen series highlighting the interconnectivity of human and non-human animals. These portraits portray the megafauna of the Albertan landscape, which are key to the stability of our shared environment. By highlighting our similarities, through our animal-likeness, we can create an emotional bond which solidifies our shared value of life.
Kristina van Westenbrugge is a zoology graduate and artist from the University of Calgary, specializing in silkscreening and lithography. Her hope is that by representing Albertan wildlife, specifically the interactions and effects of human interference, will promote intrinsic value to each individual through creating an emotional connection. For several years, Kristina has worked in wildlife rehabilitation, in close proximity with native-Albertan wildlife, which has inspired her artwork.
