Exhibition opening on Saturday, March 18th from 2-4pm.
Inspired by Dean’s recent trips to Alberta over the last two years, The Frontier references where parklands meet mountains, prairies meet sky, and nature meets city. With a gentle admiration for the vast and diverse Albertan landscape, this exhibition compliments the deep roots of Canadian landscape painting in a contemporary approach by reducing the experience to a series of swatches painted with acrylic and coated with resin.
Speaking on his work, Dean states:
"This body of work aims to capture the essence of various Alberta landscapes, rather than simply depict their respective physical appearances. I believe that abstract landscapes can evoke a sense of wonder and awe, and this allows viewers to connect with the beauty and mystery of the natural world in a much deeper way."
Kristofir Dean holds a BFA from Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU). His paintings have been shown internationally, including in Australia and Hong Kong. In addition to traditional painting, his work has been reproduced as a mural and banners for Vancouver’s South Granville BIA, and as a large mural commissioned by the Art Gallery of Hamilton. His artwork has been seen in publications such as The Georgia Straight, Article Lookbook, and House & Home magazine.
