Fungus can be hard to understand and can often get negative attention. Through Inviting, Larissa Blokhuis highlights the unseen connection and mutually beneficial relationship between trees and fungus. Vast networks of fungus support our ecosystem, invisible most of the year. Through glasswork and mixed media, Larissa has created an installation that celebrates the relationships that fungi and trees have with each other.
Larissa Blokhuis completed her BFA with a major in glass at the Alberta College of Art in Design in 2008. The following year, she moved to the coast and began pursuing opportunities throughout Western Canada. Larissa is interested in a diverse range of topics, including nature, politics, psychology and history. She is inspired by the evolutionary history of plants and the repetition of life cycles. In 2017, she joined the board of Curiosity Collider as Exhibitions Director. Curiosity Collider is a non-profit arts organization that creates events which highlight the many connections between art and science.
