This pair of shows are closely related. Continua: Shared Foundation features the work of eight students who were in Streifler’s first painting and drawing class in 1986 and who are still active in the province’s vibrant art community: Michel Boutin, Diana Chabros, Holly Fay, Ernie Klinger, Jennifer McRorie, Erik Norbraten, Sheila Nourse, and Wendy Peart. The show is curated by Leesa Streifler.
Continua: New Work by Leesa Streifler showcases a series of large-scale paintings created after Streifler’s move to Winnipeg in 2019 upon retiring from the University of Regina. Streifler was a professor in the university’s Visual Art Department from 1986-2019 and is a prominent Canadian artist. Her work is in many collections, including the National Gallery of Canada.
“In my position as a professor of Visual Art at the U of R, I had the privilege of nurturing artists in Saskatchewan for over three decades, and this exhibition showcases current work by my first class of students who are all still practicing artists,” says Streifler.
