Lil Chrzan is a Canadian landscape painter known for her masterful depictions of golden light across luminous West Coast scenes. Viewers are invited to enter her world and experience a sense of calm transcendence when viewing the dramatic light-filled paintings.
For the past 26 years, Chrzan has lived and worked in the seaside village of Horseshoe Bay, British Columbia. Paintings about nature and wilderness have a long history in the culture of the West Coast, where the identity of the region and its inhabitants is so closely tied to the spectacular landscape. Chrzan’s paintings are an important and timely contribution to the discourse about the cultural values of the region in which she works, and always a personal and emotional connection with nature.
Chrzan’s paintings are not intended to be direct representations of nature but rather a process of extracting the most essential elements of a scene. Her careful brushwork and critical awareness of humanity in relation to nature set the scene for her own signature style and vision. These works hum with intensity while offering the viewer contemplative calmness.
Admission to the gallery is free. Gallery hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. For more details, visit: ferrybuildinggallery.com/art_in_the_hall
