Lisa Matthias : Duality
Edmonton-based artist Lisa Matthias believes that all living things are part of a larger assemblage, emphasized by the recognition of patterns and relatedness across species and scales of life. Drawing on her background as a professional ecologist, her large-scale black and white woodcuts explore the complex geometry of arthropod biophotonic nanostructures, and respond to scientific literature and speculative fiction about biomimicry and biotechnological collapse.
