The Art Gallery of Swift Current is pleased to present an exhibition of artwork from our permanent collection and historical items from our archive. This exhibition is a celebration of the gallery’s 50th Anniversary.

"To celebrate 50 years of the Art Gallery of Swift Current is to celebrate more than just a space. It is to celebrate our community, our relationships, and our city as a cultural hub.

Early on, the community recognized the importance of art to community growth and development. Now, 50 years later, the Art Gallery of Swift Current is happy to have been a part of that growth. Starting out as the Swift Current Allied Arts Council, the organization staged nearly 50 temporary exhibitions in the city during its early years. In the fall of 1974, the National Exhibition Centre opened its first exhibition: Swift Current ’74, a selection of contemporary art by Saskatchewan artists. The NEC was eventually renamed the R.C. Dahl Centre, and the gallery was christened the Art Gallery of Swift Current.

Today the Art Gallery of Swift Current hosts a wide range of exhibitions, facilitates art classes and workshops, and cares for a permanent collection of nearly 800 objects.

We are proud of the growth our community has made, and the role the gallery has played in it."
