Through My Kaleidoscopic Lens: Digital Abstracts by Lorene Runham
Fascinated and inspired by how a kaleidoscope alters a frame of reference, Lorene uses digital manipulation to reveal the mosaic of rich colours and powerful patterns hidden in Alberta’s landscapes.
Before the blinking, swirling diversions of colour television or video games, children found hours of fascination in the colourful and unpredictable transformations of a kaleidoscope. The mirrors in the toy played with diffused light to create delightful, colourful patterns that were unique and amazing with every twist of the tube.
Lorene Runham was inspired by that toy when creating her series of digital abstracts, Through My Kaleidoscopic Lens. All the images were developed from Runham’s own landscape photographs. Starting from a simple line of trees, or an intimate view of prairie grasses, flowers, or even a bird’s nest, she created a dazzling, rich mosaic-of abstract patterns and colours. Every image will leave the viewer eager to see her next twist.
