Lorne Beug has most recently been developing historically layered themes in a series of medicine cabinets, wonder cabinets and light boxes which result from his collecting and collage activities.
Lorne Beug studied art at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan as well as outsider art in Europe with the aid of a Canada Council grant after spending a clinical internship at the renowned psychiatric hospital in Weyburn. Beug first became recognized for his imaginative sculpture in the 1970’s which was included in the MacKenzie Art Gallery exhibition, Regina Clay and on the Virtual Museum of Canada web site. His knowledge of anthropology, archeology and geology; psychoanalysis, architecture and primitive art has had a profound influence on his unique artwork including his walk-in collage environment Two Pavilions which toured nationally. He has been the recipient of many public commissions and his sculptures and assemblages are in the collections of the Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon; Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina; Glenbow Museum, Calgary; University of Calgary; Saskatchewan Art Board; Canada Council Art Bank, Ottawa; MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina; City of Regina and and Memorial University, St. John’s.
