glass and bronze
Lou Lynn's glass and bronze sculpture draws from an interest in archaic and industrial tools and artifacts. Forms might draw cues from utilitarian objects or have their genesis in some practical application, but Lynn hijacks these elements. Altering size, configuration and other plastic elements, she builds implements with a mastery that suggests precision and purposefulness at odds with the resulting work. Fitting somewhere between the familiar and the impractically absurd, they at times resemble the specialized tools of some long lost or secret trade or unfamiliar occupation. Collectively they allude to activities outside our spheres of experience and, as convincing artefacts, prompt us to test assumptions about our reality, past and present.
