Seva Canada is a global eye care charity that works with local communities around the world to develop self-sustaining programs that preserve and restore sight. Love at First Sight features photos by Seva Canada’s Tanzanian and Nepali eye care patients after their sight was restored with cataract surgery or glasses.
The project took place March 2024 – March 2025, and brought together patients from across generations, from young children to older adults. After receiving treatment for their vision loss, each photographer was given the use of a 35mm DSLR camera and asked to capture what they had missed seeing most. These moving images depict the simple, everyday beauty of things we often take for granted, celebrating universal human values and the pleasures of family, friends, and home.
The photos in this exhibition were selected by the Seva Canada team based on the distinctive features of the image and its ability to capture the lifestyle of the patient’s community and the personality of the participant. The framed photographs will be sold during the show to support life-changing care to underserved communities worldwide.
