Burnaby Arts Council, "Luminescence V," 2020
We invite you to the FREE opening reception on Saturday, March 21 from 7 pm - 9 pm. The stars are all aligned for this special show, with the vernal equinox happening right on our opening night! Join us for a night of celebration with live music, refreshments and of course, all the participating artists.
Light is that which makes things visible, or real. Thus when we shine a light on an object, does that make it more real than when it was left in the dark? How can we utilize light in art, to express what is real to us? Whether that is in the physical realm, social or emotional.
Luminescence V features 15-20 artists and individual works that explore the use of light in both 2D and 3D creations. The exhibition will light up the park from March 21st - April 25th! This year, we welcome the return of the interactive Berzerkatroid Dragon by local artist Ron Simmer. With propane fire fabricated by Daniel Straten from Think Industrial, this fire-breathing dragon will keep us warm on these cold winter nights. Artworks will be on display throughout the property: inside the gallery, and on the front and back yards outside.
In this group exhibition, various artists will bend, project, bounce, and manipulate, as they test the boundaries of light and physics. Luminescence V is the fifth iteration of our celebration and exploration of all things illuminated! Be mesmerized by the geometric patterns of Ari Lazer, or marvel at the 3D illusions of Grant Withers. The range of works proves just how malleable the concept of light is when it comes to artistic interpretations!
