Loch Gallery Calgary is thrilled to present The Wait of Light, a brand-new body of work by the talented local artist Marcia Harris. Known for her poignant and nostalgic portrayals of urban landscapes, the paintings in this exhibition offer a fresh perspective on familiar Calgary scenes, capturing the shifting nature of the city through a masterful interplay of light, shadow, and memory.
The Wait of Light explores the ongoing transformation of Calgary's urban environment, while evoking powerful moments that may have already passed—or are yet to come. Through blurred edges, dreamlike qualities, and subtle fragments of nostalgia, Harris’s work delicately balances realism with an ethereal sense of longing. The artist’s thoughtful manipulation of colour and light invites viewers to reflect on both the weight of the past and the anticipation of the future.
The exhibition’s title, The Wait of Light, speaks to a deep stillness in Harris’s paintings, yet beneath this quietude, there is an undeniable sense of expectation. Whether it’s the warm glow of a building’s light beckoning on a cold winter’s evening or the brief pause before crossing the street, Harris captures the fleeting yet significant moments that make up our daily lives. Each scene seems poised to shift, evoking the fleeting nature of time and the constant change of the cityscape.
