New Show Reflects on the COVID Years from Two Perspectives
Whitehorse artist Marie-Hélène Comeau and Toronto artist Jungle Ling are teaming up to present an exhibit that revisits the last few years from two different points of view, through a series of paintings.
The North: Marie-Hélène Comeau’s work explores the irony of feeling trapped in a small living space, a home filled with fears and concerns, while living in a vast northern territory.
The South: Jungle Ling’s paintings are inspired by his personal art journal that he nourished during the last two years. The artist spent a lot of time drawing people or places he visited or observed in Toronto during the COVID pandemic.
Comeau and Ling are founding members of the Art Collective Tuoraf, a group established more than five years ago to create and present community art projects. While the two artists have worked together on projects in various parts of Canada, this is the first time they will be presenting their paintings together in an exhibit. They are using this artistic opportunity to reflect on these past few strange years, comparing and contrasting experiences in two very different settings and connecting the dots from North to South.
There will be an opening reception withrefreshments on Friday Sept. 2 nd from 5 pm to 8 pm.
