Pacific Splendor is a glimpse into the ever-expanding creative world of Vancouver artist Mat Holmstrom. This exhibition presents ideas of balance, harmony, transition, beauty and power on a variety of supports including canvas, paper and ceramics.
Holmstrom has actively sought to create a diverse collection of imagery that embraces the spirit of French and Canadian art canons. The Pacific Northwest wilderness and vibrant city gardens of Vancouver have provided Holmstrom with a plethora of dynamic shapes, compositions and rich colour palettes, along with a space to conceive and develop notions into ideas. The integration of metallic paint and a relief masking technique developed by the artist stimulates a unique viewing experience for audiences of all ages.
Between 2007-2012 Holmstrom studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design and MacEwan University, where he trained in both traditional and contemporary art + design practices. In 2012, he relocated to Vancouver, and committed to developing his own art philosophies and practices. Holmstrom has participated in numerous group exhibits alongside several solo exhibits across the lower mainland of British Columbia. His work can be found in private collections across Canada.
