Maxine Noel (Ioyan Mani) - Ioyan Mani…to walk beyond. A visionary elder gave Maxine Noel her Sioux name shortly after birth and walk beyond she has. Over the past twenty years Maxine has had immense success with a career in the arts. Her presentation is fresh and distinctly modern with mystical and spiritual qualities. The flowing lines indicate strength and serenity while the simplicity of composition and abstraction give her paintings a unique character.
“There is a saying that any decision you make must be goodfor seven generations and then you will have a world for your children. There is aproper way to live, where all living things are of equal value. To view the world inthe context that ‘We Are All One’ not only ensures the well-being of eachof us, but of this sacred planet.”
Maxine Noel’s strong commitment to her culture has led to work with the Native Earth Performing Arts, the Canadian Native Arts Foundation and the Association for Native Development in the Performing and Visual Arts. She works actively as a board member, consultant, artistic director and artist; she has lectured and been a panel member at the Saskatchewan School of Fine Arts, the University of Western Ontario and the native program at the Ontario College of Art. Over the past thirty years, Maxine’s works have graced the walls of private and corporate collections around the world.
