Nadia Myre: Living with Contradiction and Other Work
Artist Statement:
My practice combines beadwork, stitch-work, photography, video, installation, performance and collaborative process as a way to have people engage in conversations about identity, resilience and politics of belonging. In my work, I consider how transcultural objects and practices are potent symbols of cultural pollination that affirm Indigenous histories and sovereignties. My interests address Indigenous to Indigenous relationships, as well as Indigenous to settler/colonial relationships (such as contested histories and social/political struggles). Throughout my practice, I strive to translate my own experiences, as well as those of other Indigenous peoples, into works that are meaningful, symbolic, and empowering. - Nadia Myre

Recent exhibitions include: Volume 0 (guest curator Max Carocci, Zuecca Projects off-site 2019 Venice Biennale); Listen, speak and sing, (guest curator Better Julian, Prefix, Toronto, 2019); Balancing Acts (curator Sarah Quinton, Textile Museum, Toronto, 2019); Show Me Your Wound (guest curator Klaus Speidel, Dom Museum Wien, Vienna, 2018); Code Switching and Other Work (curatorial project of Mother Tongue, Glasgow International, 2018); and Tout ce qui reste/Scattered Remains (curator Geneviève Goyer-Ouimette, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, 2017/18).
