Naomi Cairns "Shoreline X"
oil on canvas, 36x60". Courtesy of the Gallery.
Born in 1984 on Vancouver Island, BC, Naomi Cairns is a contemporary artist celebrated for her large-scale paintings capturing the sea's edge. Living on Cortes Island, her art is inspired by her time on a sailboat exploring the Gulf Islands with her husband. Naomi's immersive paintings, showcased in the National War Museum, draw viewers into wild West Coast shorelines.
Her creative process starts with a journey on the water, photographing and sketching before translating her experiences onto large canvases in her studio. Crucial to her work, the size of her paintings allows for experimentation and depth, appearing abstract up close and detailed from a distance. Naomi remains devoted to exploring the sea and land's relationship, driven by her passion for the water and the emotions it evokes.
