Opening Date: Saturday, April 16 @ 7:00pm
In the Main Gallery, Surface All the Way Through an installation work by Arianna Richardson composed entirely of plastic collected over 5 years. Visitors are encouraged to take off their shoes and experience the handcrafted seating. Explore the duality of plastic for it’s exciting surface qualities and also as a dangerous, unsustainable waste product.
The second half of the Main Gallery is given over to Finding Place with paintings by Eileen Murray. These seductive paintings explore the concept of home from the mountains to the prairies and even inside one’s home and the items that surround us. Murray elevates still life and landscapes equally with her masterful use of paint and colour.
Artist Jax Stienstra takes us into the garden with Slugs Are Queer Icons in the Project Space. Combing a scientific study of slugs with an artist’s curiosity, Stienstra has created a cornucopia of slugs cast in bronze. Each slug is different and exudes a personality.
Throughout Casa, April Matisz brings us In Situ in the Passage Gallery. Louise Cameron presents Niche in the Student Showcase. More abstraction from Rae-ann Dalgleish in A Journey Through Abstract delights upstairs in the Focus Gallery. Two shows in the Concourse Gallery will intrigue those interested in Fibre Arts. Facets by the Ewes + Mies Collective combine textiles and solid forms. Fibre Connectivity: A Collection of Flags combines the talents of the Lethbridge Handicraft Guild of Weavers members into striking flag bunting that links tradition with artistry; members with craft. A cash bar will be available for visitors during the opening night. Casa does encourage mask wearing and physical distancing where possible. Casa is closed for Good Friday but will be open Easter Sunday and Easter Monday for visitors of all ages.
