Madrona Gallery is thrilled to present new work by landscape painter Nicolas Bott. This solo show features new works by the artist documenting the dramatic landscapes of Canadian mountains, forest and coastline. Bott's characteristic brushwork and mastery of dramatic lighting and colour is forefront in these new paintings, making them an exciting addition to the canon of this much-loved artist.
Nicholas Bott is an internationally recognized artist based in Vancouver. This year is the 60th anniversary of his move to Canada from the Netherlands, and we are happy to announce our 7th solo show of his paintings. This exhibition features new work along with selections from Bott's personal collection, highlighting some of the styles he has explored over the years.
Originally from the Netherlands, Bott moved to Northern B.C. as a teenager. Influenced by both Van Gogh and the Group of Seven, he paints a wide range of subjects, favouring remote locations along the coast of B.C. and the sculptural mountains of the Rockies and the Arctic. He is a master at distilling a landscape; looking through nature, omitting unnecessary details and simplifying shapes to create a strong, sublime sense of place.
