In her talk Mudbrick and Rocks at Çadır Höyük, Turkey: A Case Study in Rural Byzantine Archaeology, Marica Cassis discusses her research into Byzantine archaeology in Turkey. She describes how it is changing what we know about the evolution of the Byzantine empire and the relationships of the Byzantines with their neighbours, including the Seljuk Turks. Çadır Höyük, located in central Turkey, is proving to be an important example of how to reinterpret medieval history based on archaeology.
Marica Cassis is an Associate Professor and Department Head in Classics and Religion, University of Calgary.
