Nickle at Noon: Alexandra Alisaukas: Rabbit Hole-Artists working with and through Archives
Over the past decade, archives have become a prominent focus for arts institutions and individual artists from diverse disciplines, with contemporary artists using archival materials as sources for inspiration or source material, and curators exhibiting and acquiring archival materials as artworks. This talk will explore Alex Alisauskas’ recent work with Carole Itter and Sonja Ahlers– two Canadian artists who incorporate archival materials and practices into their artworks–as they translate their creative practice to the process of managing and preserving their own archival materials.
Alexandra Alisauskas is a Learning and Engagement Librarian at the University of Calgary, and a recent graduate of the MAS/MLIS Program at the School of Information at the University of British Columbia, pursuing the First Nations curriculum concentration. Alex also holds a PhD in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester and was previously an arts writer, researcher, and educator. Her current research explores contemporary art, artists’ and writers’ archives, and person-centred approaches to library, archival, and information services. She lives as a grateful guest on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta.
