Reception: Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 7pm to 10pm
How can we think about the relationship between physical and psychological space? Obscura explores the possibility that spaces can foster experiences of deep contemplation and insight, enabling introspective observation and, furthermore, an attentive and empathetic consideration of our relationship with the world. Through various photographic and print-based forms, the exhibition proposes that illusion, artifice and mimesis contribute significantly to our experience and conceptualization of space. Calling to both wonder and fear, the dream-like scenes invite a silent individual encounter with things, as familiarity comes in and out of focus and the real overlaps with the imagined.
This exhibition is the final visual presentation for the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking.
