Michael Corner and Deanna Bartholow: Of Fur and Feathers
to
The Edge Gallery - Canmore 612 Spring Creek Drive, Canmore, Alberta T1W 0C7
Michael Corner continues to entertain us with his unusual portrait paintings and if you missed him in Calgary, you are in luck... because Michael's 'animals' have migrated to Canmore!! Michael is a contemporary portrait painter who captures his subject matter from the natural world and integrates them in a skillful manner with still life forms both natural and man-made, using an 'old masters' approach.
Deanne Bartholow began her career as a wood carver 30 years ago after having painted for many years. Her carvings depict native Alberta birds and are so exquisitely constructed that they take on life-like qualities. The woods used are Tupelo gum from the swamps of the southern U.S. and Jelutong, a rubber tree from Malasia, as both woods carve very well and retain the intricate details that give the work a tactile characteristic.
