Open Call for Submissions
EXHIBITION TITLE: Making Home- Juried Exhibition I July 8- August 14, 2021
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday May 31 @ 11:59pm
The Fort Gallery is seeking submissions for Making Home, a juried exhibition that invites reflection on our changing relationship to our living spaces in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Lower Mainland’s housing crisis. The pandemic has seen many of us confined to our homes as they have transformed into offices, playgrounds, schools, and gyms, blurring the boundaries between public and private spheres.
Making Home asks the questions: How has the pandemic re-shaped domestic life? How has the pandemic changed our relationships to the spaces we inhabit and those we share these spaces with?
We invite proposals from emerging and established artists in all media.
The Fort Gallery is the first and only artist run centre in the Fraser Valley region. It is situated on the banks of the Fraser River, in the historic town of Fort Langley, on unceded Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo and Matsqui territory. The Fort Gallery’s vision is to create a space for curiosity and conversation where visual and performing art form the heart of a vital and inquisitive community.
The exhibition will be juried by Langley-based visual artist and professor Kira Wu. Kira works with experimental video/film, installation art, and photography. She did her undergraduate studies at the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary and received an MFA degree from the School for the Contemporary Arts, at Simon Fraser University. Wu’s practice explores personal narratives crossing borders between race, gender and representation. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including; New Canadian Video, Museum of Modern Art, NYC, USA (1994), Interferences, Multi-media and Digital Art Festival in Belfort, France (2000), Re-dress Express, Centre A, Vancouver (2007), Views from the Southbank II: Moments, Reflections, Intervals, Surrey, BC (2015) and a solo exhibition curated by Paul Wong at OnMain Gallery for Capture Photography Festival, Vancouver, BC (2020). She is a full-time faculty member with over 20 years of teaching experience in the Fine Arts Department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Submit up to three works for consideration, max 9 images.
