RECEPTION: NOVEMBER 10, 6:30, ARNICA
Catastrophe, Memory, Reconciliation is a collection of mixed-media drawings, stop-motion animations, and a sawdust tapestry—all of which characterize a broad and interdisciplinary approach to drawing. Castillo’s works generate personal mythic narratives that explore the contemporary social realities of collective memory, historical trauma, and cultural identity. He draws on imagery from a multitude of sources, including pre-Colombian mythology, Salvadoran folklore, and iconography from both the past and present to embody a common struggle with a conflicted history.
