Out of the Woods - The Whonnock Weavers and Spinners Guild
to
ACT Art Gallery 11944 Haney Place - in The ACT, Maple Ridge, British Columbia V2X 6G1
This exhibition encompasses the full scope of the development of textiles, as objects of utility, adornment and pure self-expression. And, while many fabric processes have evolved through technical innovation and global economies, the appreciation for original hand-wrought processes lives on.
Formed in 1974, The Whonnock Weavers and Spinners Guild has deep roots in the community of Maple Ridge, and a reputation for excellence in both traditional and innovative textile formats. The theme of their exhibition is allied to the upcoming Textile Society of America’s symposium, which will take place in Vancouver from September 19 – 23.
The exhibition, OUT OF THE WOODS, is dedicated to the memory of Ellen Hamilton, who envisioned this exhibition before her untimely passing in 2017.
Hand-spinning Demonstrations: 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm on Friday, Sept 14, Saturday, Sept 22, Friday, Oct 12 and Saturday, Oct 13
