With rapid urbanization and industrialization, paintings in the 19th century began to reflect a yearning for an idealized rural life. Artists would immerse themselves into their subject matter, often taking sojourns into the countryside to better capture the details of every day life for the country dwellers, or describing the lifestyle of the everyday home.
This exhibition includes works by Bernard Pothast, Adolf Eberle Etienne Maxime Vallee, Hendrik Heyligers among others. Showing alongside this exhibition is a selection of fine antiques and objet d’art.
Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am to 5pm or by appointment. The first building on the south end of the Granville Street Bridge at the beginning of South Granville’s Gallery Row, 2117 Granville Street, phone 604-736-8825 www.langmann.com. (Wheelchair accessible).
