"What comes to mind when you hear the word home?" For this collection of work, Painting Home refers to a place where you have roots, knowledge, and connection. Those three qualities are what links all these paintings together and gives an accurate overview of her practice. She paints in three media: watercolour, acrylic and oil. These landscape paintings highlight the three modes of working she employs: plein air, large studio work completed with a photo reference, and by memory.
Painting Home contemplates the meaning of home, both the geographical context and site specific, but also the connection to the land that bonds with the spirit. We derive our sense of who we are because of this particular place. Central Alberta is my home and the variety of landscapes found within the parkland region is astounding. "In these paintings there's a sense of déjà vu, as I have been in these places before, painted them before, and I'll continue to return to capture the beauty with fresh eyes."
