Peter Deacon RCA: Elements Of Landscape
The artist's series is based upon the interplay of signs, images and symbols; irreducible components that he named as “Prime Elements.” The component elements referencing geographic location, personal experience, memories, dreams, prime numbers, geometry and primary colors etc. are “irreducible” in the sense that Deacon regards them as being absolute.
The works make particular reference to locations on or near the Continental Divide; the most important symbolic and geographical metaphor for his own location in Calgary. The Divide can be understood as a division between West and East or as a bridge between North and South.
Timeless and temporary become one and the same.
