Portals: Curators Talk
to
Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art 205-268 Keefer Street (Sun Wah Centre), Vancouver, British Columbia V6A 1X5
Join curators Mark Takeshi McGregor and Diane Hau Yu Wong for an insightful guided tour of Portals, our 2025 summer exhibition at Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.
This year’s exhibition brings together six Vancouver-based artists — Arkah अर्ख, Evan Matchett‑Wong, Sena Cleave, Miles Saraswat, Christian Yves Jones, and Naomi Maya Leung 梁珮恩 — whose works reimagine community, memory, and identity as states in motion. Through sculpture, painting, video, bookmaking, textiles, and installation, these artists invite us into worlds of transition, resistance, and becoming.
In the face of intensifying anti-queer, anti-trans, and anti-immigrant rhetoric, Portals embraces thresholds as spaces of connection and renewal rather than escape — spaces where we can imagine otherwise: worlds shaped by care, multiplicity, and reimagined futures beyond colonial and heteronormative frameworks.
Come hear directly from the curators about how the exhibition came together, the stories and themes behind the works, and what it means to cross a portal.
