The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists (SNAP) and Alberta Printmakers (A/P) are collaborating to celebrate Alberta Culture Days 2020 across the province. While Calgary and Edmonton may often be pitted as rivals in Alberta, SNAP and A/P are joining together to offer a variety of free, interactive, and engaging online printmaking programming for all ages. Stay tuned for RSVP information!
Artist Presentations: Meet the Artist
Tune in from 10 am – 10 pm on Saturday, September 19 to watch several printmakers living and working across Alberta speak about their artistic practice. Get a sneak peek into their studio spaces, learn about a range of creative processes, discover new techniques and artistic possibilities, and learn more about their work.
Watch all of the presentations at once for an art-filled day or enjoy the presentations at your own pace via A/P’s and SNAP’s websites following the September 19 release.
Printmaking Demonstrations & Tutorials
Enjoy four behind-the-scenes printmaking demonstrations that feature A/P and SNAP facilities before showing you hands-on ways to achieve similar results by printing from home. Over the course of four consecutive evenings (Tuesday, September 22 – Friday, September 25), you will experience a comprehensive guide to printmaking and the various processes involved in techniques such as screen printing, intaglio, lithography, and monotype. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate and learn from professional artists who will take you through the steps of printing before showing you how to adjust the techniques and materials to successfully print at home.
The ‘at-home’ portion of each demonstration will touch on child-friendly techniques and will use a range of supplies that are readily available and accessible. A supply list will be provided in advance if participants would like to print along at home.
Print Party
Get your entire household together to join in an interactive Prairie Impressions Print Party on Saturday, September 26! After enjoying the artist presentations and printmaking demonstrations throughout the week now experience a real-time print party from your own home. Join in the fun and print your own party decorations to celebrate Alberta Culture Days with A/P and SNAP!
From 2 – 3:30 pm there will be a Family Fun Hour where all ages are invited to participate and print their own party decorations. With the help of step-by-step instructions create a printed party hat and decorative paper bunting to make your own party zone festive and fun! Families and individuals can put their new printmaking skills to use during the engaging and interactive party activities.
After the Family Fun Hour there will be a Printmaking Happy Hour from 5 – 6:30 pm for those who wish to partake with beverages and hands-on printmaking activities in the company of the Alberta-based artists featured in the live artist presentations. Bring your questions, printmaking passion, and party energy for a fun evening of printshop talk and coaster printing!
