BIRB: Rawry & Pohly
In their November 2021 residency at Sparrow Artspace titled BIRB: Rawry & Pohly will embark on an exploration of the liminal space between the societies of birds and humans, the ways they intersect and interact, and our shared urban ecologies. Utilizing their iconic style, through both visual art and literary art, the works created will explore the dynamic facets of birds and humans through satire and humour, with a focus on how our behaviours are reflective of our shared animality.
Industry Night - Mon Nov 29, 3-9pm, 36 4th St NE, please rsvp
Kevin Chow and Jamie Mason are local Calgary public artists Rawry & Pohly and would like to invite you to a networking event during their closing exhibition. They are inviting community builders, fabricators, and a few artists from around Calgary to a networking night focused on exploring ideas of grant writing, public art, placemaking, and engagement.
A little background about them, they have fabricated and installed a number of benches in Chinatown, fabricated and exhibited light-up sculptural work at the igNIGHT: Art Illuminated, are in the process of fabricating a hard-coated foam sculpture, have painted several murals with more planned for 2021 and have successfully written a number of recent grants for initiatives around the Chinatown area. They are hoping to share their insights and methods with other place-makers/community builders and create some lasting connections. They are happy to discuss or consult on any public art related topics.
There will also be free coffee and special gluten free mochi donuts from Sweet Rice!
