UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS
PAUL MORSTAD: MAKE HASTE, BUT SLOWLY...
JAY DART: OLD FIELDS, REVISITED
Beginning May 28 and continuing through June.
Paul Morstad takes inspiration from a wide variety of sources. He is an avid bird watcher, musician and traveller. His interests in zoology, geography, history, literature and exploration have led him on many journeys, including canoe expeditions of the canals of northern Europe and walking safaris through the East African savannahs. Paul has shown his work in Montreal, Toronto, Seattle, Vancouver, and Portland, Oregon. His work belongs to private collections around the world. He studied visual art and animation at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. Born and raised in the western provinces of BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan, Paul moved east to Montreal for 10 years to work for the National Film Board of Canada where he directed short, hand drawn, animated films. His longing for the Pacific Rim brought him back west to East Vancouver where he now lives and works.

Jay Dart's newest works draw inspiration from the unpredictable dynamics of the emerging ecosystems found in the marginal, deserted lands of his rural community as well as other in-between spaces. 'Old Fields' - an ecological term that describes lands that were once maintained, only to be abandoned - are used as the setting for his pencil and pastel drawings that feature wayward youths making their marks within a state of succession. These drawings expand on his ongoing Yawnder series and present allegories for the new era of distance existence.
Dart is a drawist who works primarily with coloured pencil and pastel on paper. His practice also includes bookworks and interactive installations that bring the whimsical mythology of his two-dimensional narrative works to life. Since graduating from the University of Guelph's Fine Art programme, Dart has exhibited internationally and throughout his home country of Canada. He lives and draws in Ashburn, Ontario (aka Elsewheres).
