Rebecca Belmore: Reservoir
Over the past 30 years, Rebecca Belmore has developed a highly charged aesthetic rooted in socio-political commentary that hinges upon her Anishnabai ancestry. As an internationally renowned multidisciplinary artist, from the Lac Seul First Nation in Northwestern Ontario, she has been featured at contemporary art fairs from Havana to Athens. Currently, Belmore is in the process of developing a nighttime performance for the Audain Art Museum’s meadow as well as a rock netting installation in the Tom & Teresa Gautreau Galleries. These new works will examine the disparity between wealth and poverty in Canada with poignant references to Vancouver, Whistler and the Sea to Sky corridor. RESERVOIR by Rebecca Belmore also includes the North American premiere of Body of Water, an overturned tarped canoe rendered in aluminum that was commissioned for the 2019 Istanbul Biennale.
