Opening Reception: February 7, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Reel Art: Celebrating Yukon Cinema has been inspired by two major milestones in the Yukon’s cultural heritage: the 70th anniversary of the Yukon Theater and the 40th anniversary of the Yukon Film Society (YFS). The art show is timed to run during this year’s Available Light Film Festival.
The exhibition will showcase a diverse range of artworks, all created specifically to honor Yukon film. The participating artists – Neil Graham, Aimee Ellis, Susanne Hausermann, Donald Watt, Nicole Bauberger, Linda Leon, Janet Patterson, Leslie Leong, Pat Bragg, and Marie-Hélène Comeau – have drawn inspiration from their own personal experiences with cinema, to create captivating and meaningful works.
“We are excited and inspired to produce a show to help celebrate these major milestones in local film,” said Nicole Bauberger, president of Yukon Artists at Work. “Collaborating with other organizations has always been an important part of the way the Yukon Artists at Work Society has kept going over the past twenty years,” Bauberger added.
“The Yukon Film Society is thrilled to partner with Yukon Artists at Work in their latest gallery opening,” said YFS Programmer Sebastien Lapres. “It is a privilege to have this momentous year commemorated by these incredibly talented local artists, especially since it coincides with the 23rd annual Available Light Film Festival. I encourage all Yukoners to experience this exhibition and support YAAW’s artists.”
Members of the public are invited to come discover the works of these talented artists and to celebrate the cultural impact of the Yukon Theater and the Yukon Film Society in the community. Visitors will have the chance to engage with the artists, discuss their inspirations and creative processes, and appreciate and purchase works that pay tribute to the art of performance and cinema in the unique context of the Yukon.
