~PERFORMING ARTIST BIOS~
✨Jaime McDonald is a queer Métis woman working toward her BFA at the Alberta College of Art + Design with a major in Media Arts. Her practice is primarily concerned with reclaiming and grasping onto her identity in a non-intersectional society. Focusing on her Indigenous heritage, her sexuality, and her mental health, McDonald works in a variety of media including documented and live performance, installation, sculpture, video, and sound. She uses feelings of nostalgia, longing, and confrontation to address the binaries she faces.
✨Signy Holm is a Calgary-based artist and is currently a Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate at the Alberta College of Art + Design with a major in drawing. She works primarily through installation, performance, new media, often referencing theories of object-oriented ontology and more recently, colour theory. Holm critiques notions of the modern “Wellness”/”Self-Help” industry and its contradictions through installations that present such lifestyles in satirical ways. Through manipulation of found objects, Holm creates sculptural, poetic narratives that question function and dysfunction, often inserting her own body into the work through performative gestures. She has exhibited work for the Marion Nicholl Gallery (2017), Stride Gallery (2018) and is passionate about supporting Artist-Run culture within her community. Holm is co-director of two student-run groups at the college, including the ACAD HORSE Club and The Pidgin Collective.
✨NIK is a Serbian performative artist, currently based in Calgary. In their most recent work, they explore the spectrum between Eastern European culture and western culture. Through their body they seek to find a safe space to exist in between two extremes. NIK has performed in IKG Live2, along with Sled Island partnered with The New Gallery, and they will be performing in up-coming M:ST 9 Biennial for Rita McKeough’s book launch. NIK had graduated with a BFA from Alberta College of Art + Design in drawing.
✨Toni Cormier concerns herself with the aftermath of unveiled secrets. To move productively forward from this point of no return, she uses watery premonitions to access speculative futures. Cormier is a Calgary based emerging artist attending the Alberta College of Art + Design, and completing her BFA in Drawing. Recently, she has shown at the Marion Nicoll Gallery, Sled Des Refuses, and curated ‘the usual place, but to the side’ at TRUCK U-Haul space & the Ivan Gallery.
