About Roberta Linfield
Roberta Linfield received her art training at Kwantlen College, which is now known as Kwantlen Polytechnic (Surrey, BC.) She graduated in 1983 with an Associate Degree in Fine Arts. Her major interests at Kwantlen College were printmaking classes. Completing lithography, silkscreen, intaglio, and relief printmaking courses during her time at the college. Roberta took a hiatus from creating to raise a family. After her children became adults, they encouraged her to reconnect with her art and start creating again. She started taking classes at the Centre for Creative Arts in Grande Prairie, Alberta. A decade later she is still taking classes at the Centre for Creative Arts and is a casual instructor there for adult soapstone carving and gelatin plate printmaking.
Artist Statement
When I find a medium that resonates with me, I immediately have the urge to push it as far as it will go. With gelatin plate printmaking, I can easily push it in the direction of endless experimentation. Because this type of mono printing is so inexpensive, versatile, and continually surprising in its results, it has become a major creative medium in my practice. I feel the work I generate on the plate is a window on the world I am surrounded by, and my viewpoint is constantly changing. I take actual items from whatever place I’m in and create reflections and textures of that place in abstract, representational, botanical or any combination of those. I want my work to encourage the viewer to ask how, with what, and why was it created. The work hopefully invokes curiosity and a comfortable familiarity with the shapes of items used in my work.
