Painting Alberta is a meticulously crafted series of nearly 400 paintings, based on photographs from the 1880s to the present day. This six-year project evolved into a collaborative effort, involving one hundred participants from various social backgrounds, religions, and cultures, who generously shared their images and stories.
To ensure a comprehensive representation of the province, exhaustive research was conducted in public libraries and archives. Furthermore, Sabine Lecorre-Moore forged meaningful relationships with First Nations, including the Lubicon Lake Band #453 in Little Buffalo. The installation’s mission is to dispel stereotypes and reveal the vibrant, diverse tapestry of life in this western province. Time and again, visitors who have seen the installation wished they could take the work home in one form or another. Their wish has become a reality with the book launch of Painting Alberta.
