Opening Reception: Saturday, June 7, 6–8 PM
Outsiders and Others is proud to present Scotty Colin: Illumination, a new solo exhibition. This marks the third solo exhibition by Colin with the gallery and highlights the continued development of his visual language and spiritual practice through art.
The gallery has had the privilege of working with Scotty Colin since 2021, when we featured his work in New Discoveries, a group exhibition showcasing three emerging artists new to the gallery. It was his first experience exhibiting in a gallery. In response to the enthusiastic reception of his work and the artistic potential we recognized, we invited him back for solo exhibitions in June 2022 and again in October 2023.
Illumination presents Colin’s most recent visual explorations. His work is rooted in a spiritual journey and a deeply personal narrative. A self-taught artist, Colin began creating in 2010 during a profoundly difficult period in his life. He describes his practice as a way of navigating darkness in order to discover light—an ongoing exploration of the shadow self and its place in healing and personal transformation.
Rather than rejecting inner darkness, Colin’s art embraces it, drawing on everyday mysticism and symbolic imagery to uncover hidden truths. His creative process is both reflective and intuitive, with each piece acting as a narrative thread that weaves together light and shadow, struggle and insight.
