Madrona Gallery is pleased to announce the first of its Guest Exhibition Series, starting with an exhibition of over 20 paintings by Shawn O'Keefe. Those familiar with the Victoria arts scene are sure to recognize Shawn O'Keefe's work from his involvement in graphic design around the city and with a group of local artists known as the Woodpile Collective. He has been an integral part of Phillip's Brewery's creative team and is the creative mastermind behind numerous design projects around the brewery, in addition to more than 75 unique labels created specifically for the brand.
O'Keefe's individual work brings together traditional influences from members of the Group of Seven, especially A.J. C asson and Lawren Harris, and other 20th century landscape artists. O'Keefe's take on the Canadian landscape, however, is completed with a more contemporary sensibility through his experience working as a collaborator with the Woodpile Collective and as a graphic designer. This comes through prominently in O'Keefe's work, where traditional brushwork is just as important as his use of spray paint and screen printing, allowing his distinct aesthetic to come through.
