Shawn Pinchbeck: Pathways

Arts Commons Presents brings a new media art sound installation to the +15 hallway that runs from September 2 – January 5, 2018 – Pathways by Alberta-based electroacoustic music composer Shawn Pinchbeck. Artist Reception at Happenings #10 in the Upper Mezzanine of Arts Commons on Monday, November 27 from 6-9pm

As you walk the +15 Soundscape, Pathways is a 60 minute soundscape that will takes you on a sonic journey exploring aspects of sounds, compositional structures, frequency, and space. Through Shawn Pinchbecks travels, he has collected a vast library of field recordings, soundscapes, and noises which he samples to create his work. The process of manipulating sounds, weaving pieces that cross genres of sound art going from electronicacoustics, noise, ambient music and soundscape. Presented widely at festivals and exhibits across Canada and Europe, Pinchback’s work primarily focuses on sonic artworks of all kinds.

“The idea of the piece comes from my rather nomadic lifestyle living in several cities to teach, create music, perform and be with family,” says Pinchbeck. 

The Arts Commons +15 Soundscape is a unique multichannel sound system that provides sound art opportunities to local and national sound artists, which is available for passersby to freely experience.
