The University of Alberta’s FAB Gallery is proud to present Sky, Stone, and Prairie: Plein Air Perspectives of Alberta, a solo exhibition by Alberta artist Samantha Williams-Chapelsky. This collection features 100 plein air paintings created during her year-long tenure as the 2024–2025 Alberta Artist-in-Residence/ Arts Ambassador.
Throughout every season, Williams-Chapelsky ventured into Alberta’s diverse terrain — painting directly on location in sun, snow, wind, and rain. The result is a compelling visual archive of the province's shifting skies, stone formations, and expansive prairie vistas. Using acrylics, added textural pastes, brushes and palette knives, each painting reflects both the spirit of the land and the immediacy of plein air practice.
“This project is a love letter to Alberta,” says Williams-Chapelsky. “Each painting marks a moment of connection between myself and this province’s landscapes.”
The exhibition runs from September 2 to September 27, 2025, in the Fine Arts Building (FAB) Gallery at the University of Alberta. A closing reception with the artist will take place on Thursday, September 25, from 7–9 PM.
