Small Treasures 2020
Opening 10:00 am, Vancouver time, Saturday, January 25
One of the most anticipated shows of the year! 2020 marks the Inuit Gallery's 17th annual Small Treasures exhibition and once again the artists continue to delight with original new art works. Like the earliest Inuit carvings, most works in this year's collection are small enough to sit comfortably in your hand.
Included are works from across the Arctic, including Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Qamani'tuaq (Baker Lake), Kugluktuk (Coppermine), Uqsuqtuuq (Gjoa Haven), Pangnirtung, Nunavik, and many others.
You will find works by favourite artists such as Paul Malliki, Joanasie Manning, Ningeosiak Ashoona, and Pudlalik Shaa. There are many other artists represented including Idris Moss-Davies, Derrald Taylor, and highly regarded artist Abraham Anghik Ruben who has created several works specifically for this show. We are also happy to introduce many new talents who are the voices of the new generation of Northern artists.
This year we are pleased to present exquisite, small scale art works by two Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) artists Joe Greene and Eric Silver. Joe Greene has created several highly detailed, delightful sculptures in antler while Eric Silver presents a lyrical stone swan.
There are wonderful examples of birds, bears, muskox, whales and many other arctic animals, as well as vintage works and several figures engaged in traditional activities, using a variety of materials including stone, antler, muskox horn, as well as ivory and whalebone (whalebone and ivory cannot be shipped outside Canada).
Preview the art works in the gallery starting January 18th.
